Accelerating Growth: 5 Principles

I am incredibly proud of my colleagues and thankful to our customers for helping us make it on the Inc. 5000 list of fastest growing, privately-held companies for the second year in a row. So, making it one year was amazing, but two years in a row – well now we’re excited. I truly believe that without the following 5 principles, we couldn’t have gotten to where we are today. I hope you enjoy these items and that you can apply them to help you and your organization grow, as well.

Creativity

Every business needs to focus on creativity. Let me say that again. EVERY business needs to focus on creativity. Building out an atmosphere where your colleagues or employees can think about your products, services, customer service or the like is essential to not becoming stagnant. At Pyxl, we use a variety of methods to inspire and spur on creativity, including conferences, company trips and outings, books, creativity sessions and group projects. People are creative in different ways. Make sure you have enough varied outlets.

Process

Process right after creativity?  Yep. Creativity and the ideas that emerge from it can’t just be tossed in the air and left. If you do that, they won’t become valuable pieces of your organization. Establish owners and create a process for making sure new ideas and existing products or services are organized in a way for repeatable success. Just remember, having a process is a good start, but you always want to be improving it! Don’t fall into the “we’ve always done it that way” death spiral.

Marketing

Pyxl is a digital marketing company and we actually market ourselves.  Crazy, I know. Some places look at marketing as an optional area for growth. If sales look like they are slowing or the pipeline is drying up, they cut marketing. No offense, but that’s stupid. Evaluate marketing – yes. Make sure you are getting value – yes. Cut it completely? I’d say that is only surpassed on the crazy level by doing the same bad marketing again and again, hoping for different results.

Expansion

We have expanded our footprint, our customer base and our services. Evolving and doing new things has been essential to us as a company and a culture. We started with 4 employees and 1 office, growing to 31 full time employees and 3 offices. We are excited by it. We get energized learning from it. And then we try to one-up ourselves. But, to be successful here, be excited about where you are, and see points 1-3.

Repeat

You can’t do these things just once. You need to be working on them every day. Don’t set it and forget it. Focus on how you can grow and enjoy what you are doing.

Pyxl has actively worked to tie these principles together for ourselves and our customers as we’ve grown over the years. It’s what has helped us grow and what sets us apart. If you are interested in asking me questions about any of these areas feel free to email me at [email protected]
